28th. Snow lying this morning, more snow during the day: weather was rather warm though, so most of it had melted by the evening. I can't remember it snowing in November and December ever before: snow here has been serious only in Jan-Feb since 1981. This lot came in on an occluded front. Are we in for odd weather this winter?

Nice pre-summery weather in the afternoon. A thundery shower at 9.30 pm, more rumbles and rain later. Wouldn't be surprised at a bigger one in the early hours - seems to be the pattern with these storms that drift over from France.

Walking back beside the railway I had a very low moment. I realised that it was Monday morning, February, raining, that I'd been unemployed 19 months and couldn't even get an appointment for a new claim till the end of the week.
