Triffic weather today - massively windy in the morning, gusting Force 8 I reckoned (61mph according to the telly), then about 1pm it pissed down with rain, cleared up very quickly. By 9pm, the pressure had risen from 1004 to 1029 mb - 25 mb rise. A cold front passing over, as I guessed at the time and as the telly confirmed.

December 15th. The pressure has dropped to 1024 mb and it looks like the anticyclone which has been here for 2 weeks is finally moving away.

Very depressing day. Dismal grey weather. Cold, raw, Decembral, grey.

(12.39am). Just listened to Bill Giles doing the Radio 4 weather. He sounded very distressed, as if he was about to cry.

In the evening the near-full Moon very clear and bright, lighting up flat cumulus almost like daytime.

Woke up at 9.20, was confused by how dark it was. Walked to the optician's in driving rain and fierce winds. Got soaked. Walked home, against the wind this time, getting even more soaked. Incredibly dark.

Went for a walk in the evening, the waxing moon shining mistily through clouds.

Went to Bury Hill for a walk on the Common: mist'd been hanging around all day, and as I drove there it turned into thick fog. Walked through the woods, came back via the road. In the lane it was foggy, dark, grey, quiet and utterly peaceful. Very relaxing, but freezing cold. Got back to the car, drove back in dangerously thick fog.

Wind was rising, to a crescendo at 7.30. It must've been the cold front passing over, because it absolutely pissed down.

A massive black cloud drifted up from the West after sunset but it passed over. Later in the evening it was windy, very cold and very clear. Stars magnificent. Saw a white meteor blaze north-westwards across the zenith.

Went for a walk down the river. Beautiful autumn weather. The Pond (where we 'sailed' the tin bath) had totally dried up. Couldn't see anything on the bottom. It was never more than 5' or 6' deep.

After Neighbours rode to Sainsbury's - very windy, bleak and grey but nicely so. As I rode back it began pissing down with cold rain and I got completely soaked. But at 9.30pm it was cold and clear and great. (The rain earlier was probably a cold front passing.)

On the lunchtime news thunder was predicted, then 40 mins. later it arrived. Absolutely pissing down with massively loud thunder and violent violet flashes of lightning.

A roll of thunder at one point during the evening, and some rain, but (like Wednesday) not enough to make anything wet.

Much colder today. When we came out of the library in the morning it'd gone very dark, and it even drizzled a bit later. Not used to overcast any more. Got even colder and darker in the evening - October, November, December-like.

I reckon things'll calm down when it rains - been dry as a bone here for weeks.

Very autumnal - misty and humid - but also as hot as yesterday. Loads of thick cold fog down by the river. Getting cold at nights now.

No more special radio weather forecasts: they're all coming from the telly weather studio now. A pity in a way - one of the first things I noticed about Radio 4 was the different weather forecasters, and I got quite used to them.

Cold late in the evening - autumn approaches.

Rainy and windy: cold but exhilarating. Dark clouds, and rain beating on the train windows (the rain was following me Eastwards); after I got to Norwich, as I came up to the top of Rose Lane, the sun burst out of the trailing edge of the clouds and everything was transformed.

About 9 pm went out for a walk: it was cool and almost cold, and for the first time this year there was that smoky autumnal smell in the air. Nice to see the seasons are still turning.

Very subtle hints of autumn in the air these past few days, and this evening reminded me a bit of those evening walks just before I went away to uni three years ago.

Sunday dawned damp and grey, and I was woken up at 8.30. Weather improved in the afternoon.

Friday of the last week of the last term of the last year. Woke up at 9am and went around taking souvenir photos of the campus in the clear summer morning sunlight. In the afternoon there was lashing rain, and thunder, but an hour later it was sunny again.

Out in the evening under a beautiful full Moon.

Thunder then a massive rainbow in the afternoon and evening.

Went down briefly to the lake in the rain.

Had a long conversation on top of the hill with S. Jupiter and Venus clear, wildlife all around and the fields stretching away into the south-west.

In the evening it was raining and very cold and very windy.

Cold today, but big clouds and showers in the morning, and lovely clear skies in the evening. Nice to see the Sun after so long. Venus, Jupiter and Mars are all in line ready for the conjunction on the 17th. Venus is quite amazingly bright at the moment.

About tennish it was still vaguely light, and Jupiter and especially Venus were burning brilliantly in the western sky.

Lovely Spring weather: sun, fluffy clouds etc but a bit cold.

In the evening put an embargo on revision and walked down the valley. That lovely May evening light is in full flow. In the park to the north I looked out west over the ranked receding countryside. The light was coming in under the branches and clothing the slope down to the river in golden haze. Looking back, the horse-chestnuts were in bloom and utterly beautiful in the light against the deep blue sky. It's worth having lived through all that trouble to see that kind of thing.

Later saw the New Moon, Venus and the Sun in the sky all together.

I saw an interesting thing as the sun set: it was split up into sparks by tree branches and the last one (the highest) suddenly turned deep red, then green and finally vivid dark blue. Beautiful and very impressive. I've never seen it before.

Start of the finals. Put on my special-occasion paisley shirt for luck and went for a walk round the Broad first. Hot, sunny, humid.

About 7.30pm dusk was just falling, along with a few drops of rain, and the quiet grey clouds and the wind and a fresh smell took me right back, to before all this hassle.

With the Sun hot and bright, Spring was obviously in full flow.

The equinoctial gales are properly in progress. Extremely windy now - as I made my way back here against the wind a few minutes ago, I saw Jupiter and Castor and Pollux briefly visible among the flying clouds. A great sign of optimism.

Beautiful weather today, positively Spring-like. I always notice the return of blue skies with cauliflower clouds about this time of year.

Coming back from handing in my essay at 1.20pm the lovely weather really got to me. How lovely, I thought - the kind of Sep. 28 1988 weather I've always loved. 4 days till March 1st and Spring!

F'windy from the S.W. all day. Amazingly windy in fact - nearly pushed me over at 4.15pm.

Freezing south-westerly wind sprang up on my way back from the hospital about 2pm, and by midnight had grown to enormous strength.

About 5.30 I was coming back from the Co-op when I saw Venus and a very thin new Moon about 5-° apart in the western sky. Venus was very bright and against the pale blue background it was a beautiful sight.

Got depressed again: I cheered up later though, especially after walking home through thickly-falling snow. Strange things, mood swings.

It started snowing at about 9pm. At 11pm frolicked in renewed snow, then sat watching the thick snow falling till about 2am.

February 6th. Woke up at noon, went out to the Co-op in snow and freezing East wind.

February 7th. About 10 am it started to snow heavily and by 3pm there was at last plenty of snow on the ground. As I read on through the afternoon the white patches joined up (partly due to drifting in the strong East wind) and it carried on till about 5pm. The average cover was a couple of inches at least. Snow again at 8pm till about 10pm.

February 8th. Went to the Co-op. No bread due to the snow. It snowed almost all day - quite deep now. A12 blocked by abandoned vehicles.

February 9th. More snow, would you believe it. Woke up about 11 am, trudged through the snow to the Co-op.

February 10th. On the way back at 10pm had a snowball fight and then we sledged down the hill on a bread crate. It was brilliant. Walked home through thickly-falling snow.

February 15th. Had a good walk, albeit in the slush, to Sainsburys via the pub.

Beautiful clear afternoon - went back to the highest point, stupendous view, best day I could've chosen, especially after Tuesday's debâcle. Clouded over very swiftly about 5pm though.

Drove to the highest point in the county, 440ft. It was raining so hard I didn't even get out of the car, but I could see there were wide views.

Perfectly clear night with all the stars visible. Noticed Betelgeuse (top left-hand corner of Orion) is red, in the same way as Aldebaran though not quite so red.
