Woke up to find an unexpected 1/2" of snow on the ground. Walked into town to appreciate the wintry scene.

December 29th. A few flakes of snow fell in the morning. Bleak, grey, dark afternoon.
December 30th. A few flakes of snow; intensified a bit later, but not much was lying.

Very cold, wet and windy, snow too. Freezing. Pressure currently fallen to 967 mb. Hasn't been this low for years, but oddly there's hardly any wind now.

Went for a walk - wind, sun, heathland with roaming cows, ponies and even a deer. Lovely. In the evening walked into Bournemouth along the sea front. It was powerful and elemental and very suitable to the occasion: strong onshore wind, waves crashing on the beach, flying clouds in the night sky. I thought of Túrin on the sea shore.

Read careers books in the library. Walked home feeling very low. When I got home, read the front
page of Computer Weekly: apparently IT graduates are in great demand and it's the hardest sector to recruit people in. Cheered
up immensely, then spotted a great blue gap in the flowing grey clouds, just like 'The Sun And The Rain'.

Showery again, with promise of a low drifting west from the North Sea. I thought the sky looked a bit odd for a north wind this evening. If this was December it'd be bringing tons of snow. As it is we should get rain and strong winds.

Very interesting weather in the morning. Horribly dark and dull till 10 am, when, driving home, I noticed the sun coming out. In fact the whole sheet of leaden grey cloud was rolling off to the south-east - the demarcation line between it and clear (albeit hazy warm-front-type) sky was very marked. After that, hot and sunny all day. Odd eh?

Hot thundery night, slept badly, woke up in a mood at eight. Felt better once I was on my way to campus,
worked 10.15-4.15 on my project. There were two impressive thunderstorms - the lab has a great view West across the Colne
valley and I could see them approach. Kathryn left, saying she was scared of thunderstorms.

Really hot today, 80 F in the afternoon. Wouldn't be surprised if a few thunderstorms drifted over from France tonight.

Cold and showery with a thundery outbreak about 3pm.
July 3rd. Rained all day till about 6.30pm, when it cleared up and got colder.
July 4th. Back at three after a drive through showers: drove under one and came out into dazzling sunlight with heavy rain still falling.
July 5th. Massive thunderstorm 6.45-8pm, very exciting. First of the year, I think.

Great drive through sunny countryside.
June 4th. Beautiful day.
June 5th. Even hotter today.
June 6th. Hotter still. Conceded to the weather so far as to wear shorts.
June 7th. Really hot today. No sign of thunder yet at 10.46 pm. Went into town, got a pair of thin trousers which'll be more comfortable than jeans if if we have more of this weather.

June 8th. Impressive classic cold-front passage last night, with gusts, rain, thunder and lightning and the temperature dropping 3° F in 10 minutes. Rather grey and rainy today.
'As a cold front moved south in the evening on the 7th there were violent thunderstorms, particularly from Dorset through the East Midlands into East Anglia... The 7th was quite a day'

It had snowed overnight but the day was sunny. Waiting for the bus everything was sunny, then the North wind strengthened, the clouds darkened and the buildings were dimmed by snow. Then a driving blizzard came upon us, I was glad when the bus came. Walking back from the station, the sky darkened once more and another blizzard struck. Glad I was only 400 yards from home. The snow piled up quickly, at least 2" by 11.30pm.
February 20th. Got a lift due to the snow. Had to turn back because of a snowdrift but got to campus about 10.30.
