Very cold, grey day. Two of my fingers got white and cold on the steering wheel while I was exercising the car. Found from the NHS website that this was 'frostnip', treatment: immersion in warm water. Had always been told as a kid not to do that, but stuck them in a glassful and it worked a treat. Quite interesting to watch the colour gradually returning.

At 9am one of those misty, 'west of Banbury' Sunday mornings I was hankering after last week.

Like yesterday, the cold outside seemed to rob me of energy, so I pottered about doing things like shredding. Mist cleared later; some rain, some sun. At 6pm altocumulus scallops with the moon shining through.

Realised I'd bought the wrong size nails, so had to hurry down to Homebase via the shortcut. Back in about 40 minutes, not bad going, but very scary coming back along that path in the cloudy winter dusk.

Woken up several times by the violence of the wind, notably at 2am.

Violent squall at 8am with heavy rain, then the wind gradually calmed till 3pm.

Wednesday, January 04, 2012

Another very windy spell about 12.30am - woke me up. I could hear the roof creaking stoutly like a ship at sea.

Clear at 6am but clouding over with stratocumulus by 4pm. Rain.

Tuesday, January 03, 2012

Rain and wind overnight, and very windy, force 7, in the morning. Heavy rain and hail at noon, then particularly violent gusts F8-F9 during a squall at 1pm as the cold front went over. Saw several large branches on the ground as I walked home. Cleared later.
