Snow in the evening.
29th. The snow that fell on Boxing Day evening is still lying - very cold, about -5 C, ever since then, though it warmed up to -1 C this afternoon.
'There were four consecutive nights from the 26-27th recorded beneath -20C... Although it was nowhere near as cold in the south, it was still cold: the lowest temperature at Elmdon (near Birmingham), for example, was -9.0C on the 29th.' [...]

Lovely weather for the 1,552nd and last day of unemployment.
October 8th.
Beautiful weather.
October 9th. Really beautiful weather - walked up the road to the campus through the countryside.
'A warm spell at the start of the month, with temperatures of around 25C in the south on the 8th and 9th. On the 8th, under cloudless blue skies that were enjoyed across much of Britain, Torquay had 10.8 hours of sunshine.' [...]

End of the heat all right: a decent shower at 3pm. My brass weather forecaster predicted it. First real rain since July 11th, six weeks and a day ago.
'Very dry (many parts of the south-east being rainless - England and Wales had only 10% of the average - hence on average the driest on record, with 9.1 mm or 11%).' [...]

July 25th. Peculiar weather, hot but with a strong east wind.

July 29th. Very hot and humid again. In the afternoon a thunderstorm dropped anchor a couple of miles to the east, plenty of flashes (and one dazzling fork) and bangs but no rain. A pity to miss out on the real fireworks.

The plan to study at Weffolk is becoming more and more real every day. I know well enough it's an expensive course with the purpose of work, but it doesn't mean there won't be landscapes and weather to chime with my memories from UoL. I can find counterparts to 1988's golden autumn mornings, its grey winter dampness, red February sunsets from 1990, beautiful summer afternoons, spring thunderstorms... was there ever a crisp frosty morning at UoL? I think I associate a few with Nov. 1988 on the horrible morning journey.
