Sharp frost this morning.

Woke up to it raining. The rain has destroyed the snow. The grass is breaking through in a blast of emerald green.

22nd. All the snow has gone, at last.

Snow melting unenthusiastically.

Friday, January 11, 1985

5pm and it has been snowing almost consistently since 11 o'clock.

14th. It has snowed almost all day. Snow was 2½" deep in some places. We were sent home at 3.05pm today because of 2" of snow.

15th. A day of thick snow. Woke at 6.15am to find it snowing. At school 9 people were at registration.

17th. This evening the snow has not melted yet.

The ice was 2 1/2" thick, due to the -9 freeze.It was OK to walk right over the swamp from side to side.

The temperature did not rise above -3 C today. -5 1/2 C was achieved last night.

The rest of the morning passed without incident except for a snow flurry at ten-thirty.

January 5th. There was an inch of real snow on the ground this morning. The temperature never climbed above freezing all day. It was -3 at 5pm.

January 6th. This morning's paper-round was done in 2 or 3 inches of snow. During the afternoon it snowed, occasionally, but a shower started at about 5pm and it is still snowing now. There was a thaw (up to 2 C) at about 1pm but it refroze and the rotten snow is being replaced by a fresh, new, forecast layer.

January 7th. The temperature did not rise above -3 C today. -5½ C was achieved last night. There is frozen snow everywhere.
