Last day of Summer - bright with cooling breeze. Where has this summer gone? Since I started enjoying summer, it's been over in a flash. When I used to hate it, it went on for years.

Rather autumnal weather, grey but cosy indoors.

Wonderful yellow full moon shining through very thin high cloud.

Much nicer weather today. Bright and sunny but with a cool breeze. Kind of Septembral angle to the light in the afternoon I thought. Summer just doesn't last now that I like it. When I hated it it used to last for years.

Change in weather: dull, damp and grey today, but still unpleasantly hot.

Took a long time to get to sleep, kept waking up due to the heat.

Thundery showers at lunchtime and in the afternoon.

Very hot. In the afternoon cold drinks, fan and relaxing music with curtains closed. Felt like the end of Drugstore Cowboy.

Not a cloud in the sky all day till now - 11 pm. Very hot too, and still very hot now, in fact.

Even hotter today.

Beautiful weather - really beautiful, like you imagine August. If anything too hot.

At lunchtime rather nice time looking at the sky - white/grey 'street' cumuli, with blue sky behind. At about 35° elevation the blue faded so that the clouds and sky were the same colour as the picture of an 18th-century woman on the lid of that tin Mum keeps pins in. You know, like one of those plaster reliefs.

Great thunderstorm at lunchtime. I was up in the library and had grandstand view. Wonderful to be inside and have rain pouring down the outside of the window.

Raining in the morning ('but what is rain to a man of greatness? I shall go out!') but went into town anyway.

Quite dark coming out of the meeting at 8pm - first time I've noticed it this side of the solstice. Better make the most of August, as I remember how I didn't want summer 2001 to end when it did.

Impressive thunderstorm started about 9pm and still going on now at 11pm. About time we had some thunder.
