Odd weather - started off almost annoyingly hot, then turned cloudy and cold, and then rained. This sequence suited me though, as the cool bit began in time for me to walk to work after my visit to the dentist's.

Hot-weather lunch of ham sandwiches. Worked in the the garden in the afternoon, but the weather was much hotter by then and I got tired very quickly.

So sat in the garden and had a cup of tea and looked at those two poplar trees waving in the sun and wind, reminding me of my travels, and the hundreds of miles of warm air to the north and west.

At Hartshead Moor services about 9am the sun had come out but it was still pleasantly cool.

Woke up early in the morning to hear rain beating on the windows - when I got out at 9.45, it was steadily tipping it down. Spray on the M62 quite appalling, but fortunately it was so serious that everyone drove carefully. A real 'grotesquely awash as a courtyard where a fountain-basin has given way' morning, the ground as bright grey as the sky.

Strordinarily gloomy weather in the morning.
