Went to Southend in the afternoon: black clouds, rain and lightning striking the Kent side of the estuary. Thought about last year and then threw a pebble into the sea, to be forever washed away.

Went out for a brief walk about 8 pm - dark, cloudy sunset, strengthening wind. Autumn's asserting itself.

September 21st. Cold, sunny and windy - great weather.

Dismal cold weather all day (first real sign of Autumn) until 5 pm when suddenly the sky cleared and a golden sun burst through, illuminating everything with that beautiful Septembral golden yellow.

In the afternoon went to Southend and walked on the beach. Although the tide was out everything was very peaceful, grey and quiet.

Cleaned the outside windows under a threatening sky. Later a very autumnal sunset.
