It seemed quite quiet overnight, but from about 6-9am it was very windy indeed: when I went out at 7.30 I was taken aback by the violence of the wind, not seen that since the morning after the Great Storm. Quite quickly abated during the morning.

Lots of small broken branches, some large ones, a few small trees blown over and fences down. Good haul of windfall apples.

No 'Great Storm 2' here as yet. But...

I've been preparing for the worst by weighing down things in the back garden, and getting out and about on the net informing people about the difference between storms and hurricanes, a difference which is just the same now as it was in 1987.

News full of approaching storm, supposedly to rival the Great Storm of 1987. We'll see. Got out and about on the net pre-emptively scotching the 'hurricane' thing.

Slept till ten - a grey day, and it soon began to rain, the sun not appearing till late afternoon, when everything cleared up.

Great weather - polar maritime with big Cu, blue sky and heavy showers. Leaves still mostly green, so could've been a March/April day. Some fine effects walking home as the sun came out after one shower - trees glowing yellow-green-grey against dark clouds.
