Walked along beach to Alnmouth in the afternoon, whereupon it immediately began pissing down with rain. Spent 20p on Polos. Walked 4 miles back by the road in the rain.

Another classic front-passing day - thunder as the cold front passed. So the warm front passed on Saturday evening, about 9pm; the cold about 5pm Monday (today).

Weather went from overcast drizzle at 8 am to overcast and windy at 9 am, to cloudy and windy at 11.30, to bright and fair with fractocumulus flying from the southwest at 3 pm. Uplifting.

Came out of school at 3.40, thought 'that's a funny smoky smell, what is it? Yes, thunder - what, thunder in March?' 20 minutes later: thunder, lightning (at 2½ miles) and rain.

An amazing thing happened this morning. Went out at 7am, sky was grey. At 7.10 a slash of blue had appeared, at 7.15 a large gap had opened and at 7.25 the clouds were retreating rapidly into the East
